What is the ruling on reciting the Qur'an at a wedding banquet?

It is permissible to open celebrations and events with a portion of the Holy Quran, provided two conditions are met: that it is not believed to be a fixed Sunnah from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and that it is not adopted as a permanent habit, lest people think it is an integral part of these occasions. And "likening the non-Sunnah to the Sunnah is a disliked innovation."
