The answer

Daydreaming is when a person becomes engrossed in their inner world through fantasies related to their present or future. It is of two types: 1. Acceptable and beneficial: If it is short and related to realistic planning, or creative solutions to problems. 2. Disruptive to life: If it is prolonged, excessively imaginative, and disconnected from reality. This is a type of addiction driven by an escape from painful emotions. Although it provides partial pleasure, its cost in terms of time and achievement is far greater than its desired benefit.

Harmful engrossment in daydreaming is considered a behavioral addiction and is treated by: 1. Identifying the benefits of this behavior and formulating ways to obtain them without sinking into addiction. 2. Identifying the harms of this behavior and keeping the list close for continuous reference. 3. Daily tracking of the times of engrossment, recording details related to the day, time, feelings, and triggering situations. 4. Using the tracking log to identify triggering circumstances, then shifting to alternative behaviors to deal with them, such as engaging in a pleasant activity, praying or reading the Qur'an, sitting with family, daily writing, or taking a bath.

Note: Excessive daydreaming may be part of another psychological problem (such as excessive anxiety), and it is recommended to consult a mental health professional to rule out or address this possibility.
