Is a parent's request to turn off music considered disobedience or disrespect?

It is permissible for a Muslim to ask his father to turn off unlawful music, and this is not considered disobedience (ʿuqūq). Rather, it falls under the category of changing the reprehensible (munkar), which is commanded by Islamic law. The condition is that the request be made gently and respectfully. Imam Ahmad stated the permissibility of enjoining parents to do good and forbidding them from evil, emphasizing that the instruction should be without violence, abuse, or harshness in speech.
