What is the ruling on money taken from an insurance company for car repairs, and what is the ruling on money earned from working with a car whose installments were paid from this money?
It is not permissible to resort to deception and wrongfully take money from insurance companies. The money that was taken unlawfully must be returned to the insurance company. If the person who took it is unable to return it, they should donate it to the poor and needy.
If this money was used to purchase a car, then the portion of the car's value equivalent to the unlawfully acquired money is also considered unlawful gain. In this case, the profit should be shared equally between the original owner of the money and the person who obtained the money wrongfully, in accordance with the saying of Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, that the profit should be shared between them as in a Mudarabah (profit-sharing partnership).
