Is it permissible to marry a Christian woman whose family refuses to marry her to a Muslim, and does the guardianship of the unbelieving Christian father over his daughter in marriage transfer if he objects to marrying her to a Muslim?

It is not permissible to contract the marriage of a Kitabiyyah (a woman of the People of the Book) except with her closest guardian (wali). The guardianship does not transfer to another unless the guardian is preventing the marriage (عاضلاً). He is not considered to be preventing the marriage if he rejects a Muslim suitor because he believes him to be unsuitable for their women, as we affirm them in their own law. Therefore, the guardian of a Kitabiyyah cannot be compelled to marry her to a Muslim. The questioner is advised to marry Muslim women, for that is better and more preferable.
