Is it permissible to eat jerboa, also known as yarbu?

Scholars differed regarding the permissibility of eating jerboa. The majority of them, such as Imam Malik, the Shafi'is, and the Hanbalis (who have two narrations, the sounder of which is permissibility), held it to be permissible. Conversely, the Hanafis held it to be forbidden.
