What is the ruling on eating hyena meat, and did the Prophet (peace be upon him) eat from it?

It is permissible to eat hyena meat. The proof of its permissibility is what Abdur-Rahman narrated from Jabir, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, affirmed the permissibility of eating it. It has also been reported from many Companions, such as Ibn Umar, Ali, Saad, Jabir, Abu Hurayrah, and Ibn Abbas, that they allowed eating it. This was also the view of Ata, Malik, Al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, and Ishaq.
