What is the interpretation of the verse: "Then do not be soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet"?

The verse "So do not be soft in speech [to men], lest he in whose heart is disease should covet" is interpreted as an address to the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and all Muslim women after them, prohibiting them from softening their voices and mellowing their speech in the presence of non-mahram men and the husband. This is to prevent the display of a woman's femininity, which might arouse the lust of one whose heart inclines towards immorality. It commands that their speech should be clear and firm, only as much as needed, like a concise answer, otherwise, their speech would resemble that of prostitutes.
