What is the Islamic legal ruling concerning the construction of several closely located mosques in a village, and is it obligatory for those praying in the second mosque to go to the large central mosque on Fridays?

The default ruling is that it is impermissible to establish Friday prayers in more than one mosque in a single town, unless there is a necessity. This is the view of the majority of scholars, who cite as evidence that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Rightly Guided Caliphs after him, did not establish it except in one place.

As for the necessities that permit multiple establishments, they include: the mosque being too small to accommodate the worshippers, or the town's districts being so far apart that it is difficult for people to attend a single mosque, or the existence of enmities between parties in the town, where strife is feared if they gather, provided that reconciliation is impossible.

If there is no necessity, it is impermissible to establish Friday prayers in a second mosque, and whoever prays there must go to the larger mosque where people gather.
