Was the reason for Job's (peace be upon him) affliction his failure to grant refuge to someone seeking it, and is this story authentic?

The tribulation of Prophet Ayyub (Job), peace be upon him, was for a divine wisdom, among which was to elevate his ranks through his patience, and not a punishment for a sin. This is evidenced by Allah's praise of him: (Indeed, We found him patient, an excellent servant, indeed he was ever-returning [to Allah]). The Prophetic Sunnah confirms his innocence from sin, as Ayyub himself denied committing any sin. Scholars affirm that the tribulations of prophets are for the purpose of raising their ranks and exalting their ذكر (mention/remembrance), as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The people most severely tested are the Prophets, then the next best, then the next best."
