Why is the wife asked to obey her husband, serve him, be patient with his shortcomings, and accept his opinion, while he is not asked to do the same, even though women suffer more physical and psychological pain than men in their lives, and despite all that, they are the majority of the inhabitants of Hellfire?

It is not permissible to mix the rulings of Sharia (definition) with the erroneous actions of people. Sharia has honored women and commanded that they be treated kindly, and that the best of men is he who is best to his family, and the most complete in faith among believers are those with the best character, and the best of them are those who are best to their women.

What a husband does to harm his wife violates Sharia and is a sin that may amount to a major sin.

Sharia has permitted a woman to seek divorce if she is harmed by her husband's abuse. Obedience to the husband is not absolute; she is not obliged to obey him in disobedience to Allah or if his command causes her harm. Rather, obedience to him is obligatory in matters related to marriage and its ancillary aspects for the stability of the family.

The service of a wife to her husband is not a matter of consensus among scholars, and the preponderant opinion is that it is obligatory within what is customary. This is not an injustice to her; a woman serves inside the home, while a man works outside and is responsible for providing maintenance. A woman is not required to spend on herself, even if she is wealthy.

The pains that a woman experiences from pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are cosmic decrees that entitle her to a great reward. The worldly life is full of hardships to remind servants of the afterlife and to work for everlasting bliss. Men also suffer from other pains and burdens in earning a living.
