What is the ruling on using incense during religious festivals such as Laylat al-Qadr?

The basic ruling on using incense is permissibility, as it is among the good things. It has been authentically reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used incense. However, it is forbidden for a woman to use incense when leaving her home for the mosque or elsewhere if men can smell its fragrance. She is commanded to use it as an adornment for her husband on religious occasions and other days.
