What is the effect of a righteous companion and an evil companion?
God created humankind naturally inclined to socialize with others, and this socialization impacts their behavior. A companion is a cause for their companion's happiness or misery, as affirmed by the Almighty’s saying: "And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, 'Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way.' Oh, woe to me! Would that I had not taken such a one as a friend! He did lead me astray from the Message after it had come to me." [Al-Furqan: 27-29] And by the Hadith: "The example of a good companion and a bad companion is like that of the seller of musk and the blower of the bellows."
Associating with the righteous brings the blessing of their company, the emulation of their knowledge, deeds, and morals, the enlightenment of one's companion regarding their own flaws, and the love of God.
Conversely, associating with the corrupt and the deviant causes harm in both religious and worldly matters.
