What is the meaning of the Qunut supplication in the Witr prayer: "O Allah, we seek Your help and guidance, and we seek Your forgiveness and repent to You. We believe in You and rely upon You. We praise You with all goodness. We thank You and do not disbelieve in You. We forsake and abandon whoever transgresses against You. O Allah, You alone we worship, and to You we pray and prostrate. To You we strive and hasten. We hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment. Indeed, Your severe punishment will surely befall the disbelievers"?

The supplication of Qunoot mentioned is authentically reported from Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. The meanings of its words are:

"نستعينك" (We seek Your help): We ask You for aid. "نستهديك" (We seek Your guidance): We ask You for guidance to the path of truth. "نستغفرك" (We seek Your forgiveness): We ask You to forgive our sins. "نتوب إليك" (We repent to You): We declare our return to Your obedience and compliance with Your command. "نؤمن بك" (We believe in You): We firmly believe in all that must be believed regarding You. "نتوكل عليك" (We rely on You): We depend on You in all our affairs. "نثني عليك الخير كله" (We praise You with all good): We laud You with what is due to You. "نشكرك ولا نكفرك" (We thank You and are not ungrateful to You): We utilize Your blessings in obedience to You and do not use them in disobedience to You. "اللهم إياك نعبد" (O Allah, You alone we worship): We worship none but You, for You alone deserve to be singled out in worship. "وإليك نصلي ونسجد" (And to You we pray and prostrate): We devote our worship to You, including prayer and prostration. "وإليك نسعى ونحفد" (And to You we strive and hasten): We hasten and rush to serve You and act in obedience to You. "نرجو رحمتك" (We hope for Your mercy): We hope that Your mercy will encompass us. "نخشى عذابك" (We fear Your torment): We fear Your punishment. "إن عذابك الجد بالكفار ملحق" (Indeed, Your severe torment will surely reach the disbelievers): For Your certain and painful punishment will reach the disbelievers and atheists.

And the Salat (blessings) from Allah Almighty is mercy, and His family (Aal) صلى الله عليه وسلم are the believers from Banu Hashim, and His companions (Sahab) are all those who met him believing in him and died upon that.
