Is clearing the throat before the Adhan a Sunnah or not?

Clearing the throat before the Adhan (definition) is not a Sunnah (definition), nor is it related to the Adhan. It is not prescribed for the Muezzin to do it with the intention of it being connected to the Adhan, for the Adhan is an act of worship that is tawqifi (i.e., its form and manner are fixed by revelation), and whoever introduces something into it that is not part of it, it is rejected. However, if clearing the throat is done out of necessity, there is no harm in it before or during the Adhan, but without linking it to the Adhan.
