The senses are defined as the functions through which humans perceive their surroundings. As for the "sixth sense," Muslims call it "firasah" (perspicacity or discernment), and it is of different types: an Imani firasah (faith-based discernment) which results from a light that Allah casts into the heart of His servant, and a riyadiyah firasah (practice-based discernment) which depends on the soul's detachment from worldly attachments, and this may be found in both believers and disbelievers. The common type of firasah among people is the riyadiyah firasah, which is referred to as the "sixth sense."
