What is the Islamic perspective on the senses?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Allah has blessed humankind with senses and commanded them to show gratitude and use these senses in ways that please Him. Allah Almighty has informed us that He will question us about them, for He says: "And Allah brought you out of your mothers' wombs while you knew nothing, and He made for you hearing and sight and hearts that you might give thanks." (An-Nahl:78), and "Have We not made for him two eyes? And a tongue and two lips?" (Al-Balad:8-9), and "Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop, a mixture; We test him; and We made him hearing and seeing." (Al-Insan:2), and "Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned." (Al-Isra:36).
