Is it permissible to finance an economic project in Europe with bank loans, knowing that Muslims there cannot build strong investments except through such financing?
Bank loans with interest are forbidden usury (riba), which is a major sin and considered a war against Allah and His Messenger. The perpetrator is warned of a severe punishment in the hereafter, that he will rise "as one whom Satan has confounded with contact." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who consumes usury, the one who gives it, the one who records it, and its two witnesses. Usury corrupts both religion and worldly life; Allah destroys usury, while He blesses charities. A Muslim must adhere to Allah's law and be content with what Allah has made lawful for him, and not imitate non-Muslims who do not care about what is lawful and unlawful.
