Is it true that the interpretation of the noble verse: "O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous?" is that Allah has provided an argument for the disobedient, meaning that Allah's generosity is what has emboldened people to commit many sins, due to the absence of immediate deterrent punishments?

Al-Shawkani mentioned in his tafsir that the address in the verse is to the disbelievers, and its meaning is: What deceived you into disbelieving in your Noble Lord, who perfected your creation and provided for you? Qatadah and Al-Hasan said: His devil deceived him. And it was said: His foolishness and ignorance. And it was said: Allah’s pardon deceived him.

As for the saying of some Sufis that the phrase: "in your Noble Lord" taught him the answer, Ibn Kathir rejected it as baseless, for Allah used His Noble Name to indicate that it is not befitting to respond to the Noble with丑恶deeds.
