What is the difference between the noble verse, "But as for the favor of your Lord, report it," and the noble hadith, "Seek help in achieving your needs through concealment"?

The scholars of Tafsir (exegesis) said, in explaining the noble verse: "But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it]." (Quran 93:11), that it means to publicize what Allah has bestowed upon you as an expression of gratitude and praise. Although this address was directed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), its ruling is general, applying to him and to others. Therefore, speaking about Allah's favors and acknowledging them is a form of gratitude.

Ibn al-Arabi said: "If you attain good or know good, speak about it to trustworthy individuals among your brothers by way of gratitude, not out of pride or arrogance." In the noble Hadith: "Whoever does not thank the little does not thank the much, and whoever does not thank the people does not thank Allah. Speaking about a blessing is gratitude, and concealing it is ingratitude."

This is the principle regarding speaking about Allah's favors. However, if the Muslim fears envy or if harm results from speaking about them, then he may conceal them to avert harm, as Jacob (peace be upon him) did when he said to his sons: "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they concoct against you a plot. Indeed, Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy." (Quran 12:5).

As for the hadith: "Seek help in achieving your needs through concealment, for every possessor of a blessing is envied," it can be interpreted to mean concealment before the need is met. Once it is met, one may speak about it as gratitude for Allah's blessings, unless doing so results in harm.
