Is it permissible to shoot bats with a rifle for fun or to practice hunting?

Scholars differ on the permissibility of eating bats. The Hanbalis and Shafi'is hold it to be forbidden, while the Malikis deem it disliked. The Hanafis have differed on the matter. It is not permissible to kill it merely for amusement, as killing animals without a legitimate Shar'i purpose is forbidden. Hunting is permissible for educational purposes.
