Seeking knowledge is among the greatest acts of devotion, and by it, ranks are elevated. We advise students of knowledge to begin by memorizing the Holy Quran, then a concise text (matn) in each discipline. One should start by studying the abridgments, then the intermediate texts, and then the extensive works.

In Tafsir (Quranic exegesis), the student should begin with a concise tafsir such as Tafsir al-Sa'di and Al-Jalalayn, then move on to an intermediate tafsir like Al-Baghawi, Ibn Kathir, and Al-Shawkani, and then to the extensive works such as Ibn Jarir, Al-Qurtubi, and Adwa' al-Bayan.
