How authentic are the hadiths and narrations (athar) mentioned concerning the Barhout Well, and what is the response to those who describe them as superstitions?

There is no authentic hadith, مرفوع (directly attributed) to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, indicating that the souls of disbelievers gather in the well of Barhout in Hadramout. Rather, these are weak, موقوفة (وقف - attributed to a Companion and not the Prophet) narrations. It has been reported from some Companions and Tabi'in (successors) that the souls of disbelievers gather in a barren land in Hadramout called Barhout, and that the souls of believers gather in Al-Jabiya. This is something they received from the People of the Book, and there is nothing in divine revelation to confirm or deny it. Therefore, one must refrain from asserting anything about it and entrust its knowledge to Allah Almighty, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not believe the People of the Book, nor disbelieve them."
