Is intense admiration for a specific individual, with the aim of inviting them [to Islam] – an admiration that surpasses love for brothers in Islamic work – considered a defect or contrary to Sharia, even if justified as love for the sake of Allah and aiming for reform?

The ruling on love between two people varies according to its type. Some of it is Islamically praiseworthy (love for the sake of Allah), and some of it is forbidden. The questioner should distinguish the type of love he feels by consulting his heart. If the love is forbidden, or will lead to what is forbidden, then he must stay away from it. If he is unsure, it is advisable to distance himself from this type of admiration as a precaution and to block the means [to sin], because "warding off harm takes precedence over acquiring benefits."
