Did Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, inflict the حد (prescribed punishment) for adultery upon his son Abu Shahma until he died?

The report about Abu Shahmah, in which it is mentioned that his father flogged him for fornication until he died, has a weak chain of narration (sanad), as stated by Ibn Hajar in "Al-Isabah." The occurrence of sins is possible from some companions due to the general saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "All the children of Adam are sinners, and the best of sinners are those who repent."
