What is the ruling on taking a loan from a bank to buy a tuk-tuk without a source of income?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible to borrow with usury except in cases of dire necessity, which is when the مكلف (person obligated by religious duties) reaches a point where they fear perishing or suffering severe harm to their life, wealth, or honor, with no lawful alternatives available. Lawful alternatives for financing are numerous, such as Murabahah (cost-plus financing) and installment sales. Need is not considered a necessity if lawful alternatives exist, even if they entail some difficulty, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Fear Allah and be moderate in seeking (livelihood). Do not let the delay in provision lead you to seek it through disobedience to Allah, for what is with Allah cannot be attained except through obedience to Him."
