How does one respond to a person who despises his wife and fears she will enter Paradise with him, thus embitching his worldly life and his afterlife?

We advise one who dislikes his wife to observe beautiful patience, for this life consists of days that will pass, and in the Hereafter, he will be rewarded greatly for his patience, and he will meet his family with a heart free of hatred and malice. A Muslim should anticipate the generous reward for his patience, for Allah is Merciful and Generous; He does not combine for His patient servant the hardships of this world and the Hereafter. As stated in the Hadith: "On the Day of Resurrection, when the people of affliction are given their reward, the people of ease will wish that their skins had been cut to pieces with scissors in this world."

In this world, a believer should not hate a believing woman; "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes a characteristic in her, he will be pleased with another." If he dislikes a characteristic in her, he will find another that is pleasing, such as her religiosity, beauty, chastity, or kindness towards him. His dislike of her should not lead him to oppress her or deprive her of any of her rights, following the saying of Imam Al-Hasan: "Marry your daughter to one who fears Allah, for if he loves her, he will honor her, and if he dislikes her, he will not oppress her."

We recommend beautiful patience, for Allah may bring affection after dislike, and supplicate that Allah unites hearts. Allah Almighty said: "And live with them in kindness. For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good."
