Is it permissible to raise a dog at home for psychotherapy?

It is not permissible to raise dogs except in cases explicitly allowed by the Sharia, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Whoever keeps a dog, his reward for good deeds decreases every day by a large amount (qiraat), except for a dog for farming or herding livestock." It is not permissible to keep them under the pretext of treatment, because Allah has not placed our healing in that which He has forbidden to us. The greatest cure for psychological ailments is resorting to Allah the Almighty by increasing supplication and remembrance of Him.
