What is the meaning of Allah's Names Al-Wali (the Protector/Guardian) and Al-Wadud (the Most Loving), what are their effects in the universe and on humans, how can they be inferred, what are their faith-related implications, and how can a Muslim live in accordance with them?

In Arabic, Al-Wali (the Protector/Guardian) is the opposite of Al-Adw (the enemy). It signifies the supporter or the one who takes charge of the world's affairs and manages them. This concept is divided into a general guardianship (wilayah 'ammah), meaning Allah's closeness to His servants and His care for them, and a special guardianship (wilayah khassah) for believers, which includes preservation, love, and support. The absolute name Al-Wali is mentioned in the revealed texts, and it is mentioned twice with the definite article "Al-" in Surat Ash-Shura.

As for Al-Wadud (the Most Loving), it means the One who loves His creation and is loved by them. It is a form of fa'ul, meaning either "beloved" (maf'ul) or "loving" (fa'il) towards His righteous servants. The name Al-Wadud is mentioned in the Holy Quran in two places: Surat Hud and Surat Al-Buruj.

A servant's knowledge of these two names impacts their belief and conduct, allowing them to live a happy and tranquil life. They will love good for all of Allah's creation and forgive those who wrong them, becoming gentle with everyone. By doing so, they attain Allah's guardianship, love, and affection.

The Prophet's (peace be upon him) hadith, "When Allah loves a servant, He calls Gabriel, 'Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' So Gabriel loves him. Then Gabriel calls out to the inhabitants of the heavens, 'Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' So the inhabitants of the heavens love him. Then acceptance is placed for him among the people of the earth," indicates the importance of Allah's love for His servant.
