What is the ruling on the commercial insurance prevalent today?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Commercial insurance of all kinds is explicit usury, gambling, and gharar (excessive uncertainty), and consumption of people's wealth through falsehood. This is due to its violation of the Sharia texts that prohibit usury, maysir (gambling), gharar, and consuming people's wealth through falsehood. Even what is called cooperative insurance, takaful insurance, or Islamic insurance, in reality, does not differ from commercial insurance and is likewise prohibited. Whoever claims that scholars have issued fatwas permitting cooperative insurance has lied and slandered, as what was presented to the scholars was a deceptive presentation that bears no relation to actual insurance.
