Why is Jerusalem important to Muslims? And are there reasons other than Prophet Jacob's (peace be upon him) building of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Prophet Muhammad's (peace and blessings be upon him) leading the prophets in prayer?

Jerusalem is blessed and sacred, and it contains Al-Aqsa Mosque, where one prayer is equivalent to two hundred and fifty prayers. The Dajjal (Antichrist) will not enter it, though he will be killed near it. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was transported there during the Night Journey, and it was the first Qibla (direction of prayer) for Muslims. It is the place where revelation descended and the home of prophets, and it is one of the mosques to which journeys are undertaken. The Messenger led the prophets in prayer there.

Jacob's building of Al-Aqsa Mosque does not grant the Jews a right to it, as the call of the prophets is based on piety. The Prophet's leadership of the prophets in prayer confirms the unity of the message of monotheism. However, Jews and Christians are not on a single source now, after their alteration of their scriptures and their disbelief in the prophethood of Muhammad.

Jews have no right to Jerusalem because they disbelieved. Muslims have a greater right to it because they establish the rule of Allah therein, for the earth belongs to Allah, and He bequeaths it to whom He wills among His servants. History has proven that the Canaanites inhabited Palestine thousands of years before the Jews.
