Which is less harmful, when necessary: working in commercial insurance for an IT company with mixed capital and multiple ventures, or working in commercial insurance for an IT company whose sole specialization is commercial insurance?

Working in commercial insurance companies is forbidden unless there is a genuine necessity. A company with mixed activities is less severe than one whose entire activity is forbidden. One must seek permissible work and cease working in forbidden insurance as soon as the necessity ceases and a permissible alternative becomes available, based on His (Allah's) saying: "And He has already explained to you what He has forbidden to you, except for that to which you are compelled."
