Is a person sinful for refraining from food and drink out of sadness and anger due to their spouse's taunts?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If you are harmed by abstaining from food, then you are sinful and must repent, for the Shariah prohibits harming oneself, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There should be no harm nor reciprocating harm." If your abstention does not result in harm, then there is no sin upon you. Your sustenance is obligatory upon your husband as long as you are under his marital bond, and he has no right to taunt you about providing for you. If he does, then he is harming the marital relationship.
