Can I be guided Islamically concerning my shock at the ethics of some great sheikhs whom I consider to be among the people of the Qur’an, and my accusation of myself that Allah is displeased with me, or that my intention is not sincere, because of what I have seen of stances that contradict the ethics of the Qur’an from some sheikhs?

The bearers of the of Qur'an and its teachers are the foremost among people in adorning themselves with noble character. It is not befitting for one who carries the Qur'an to be harsh, or heedless, or boisterous, or overly jovial, or sharp-tongued. Tribulation may be a sign of Allah Almighty's love and a cause for elevating one's ranks, and not necessarily a punishment or an indication of Allah's displeasure. Accusing oneself and renewing repentance are required upon the descent of tribulation, provided there is no extremism or exaggeration that leads to despair. The correct approach is moderation in self-accusation.
