Is it permissible to work for a services company, affiliated with an interest-based bank, that receives and distributes credit cards?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

An unsecured credit card is a loan agreement between the issuer and the client, and it is subject to the Sharia rulings concerning loans. It is not permissible to stipulate an increase on a loan. Since many of these cards stipulate an increase in case of late payment, it is not permissible to accept or distribute them, as that constitutes aiding in usury, based on the Almighty's saying: "And do not cooperate in sin and aggression." As for cards free from this prohibition, there is no objection to distributing them, even if the distributing company is affiliated with a usurious bank. What is forbidden is working in the usurious bank itself or its companies that carry out its usurious operations.
