Do mere imaginings of one's wife while reading a fatwa about divorce, or imagining uttering a divorce, affect the marriage contract, or is that considered among the self-revelations (hadith al-nafs) upon which no legal ruling is based?

Divorce (talaq) does not occur except through an explicit pronouncement or an implicit one accompanied by intention. What a person suffering from obsessive thoughts imagines or doubts having uttered does not result in divorce, even if it reoccurs. A person afflicted by obsessive thoughts should ignore these whispers.
