The basic principle is that when there is a difference of opinion among muftis, the layman should act upon the opinion that he believes to be correct and in accordance with the truth. It is not permissible for him to act upon an opinion about which he has doubts. The person afflicted with obsessive doubts (waswas) who doubts a fatwa due to these doubts must disregard these suspicions. It is permissible for him to adopt the easiest of the opinions.
