Is dedicating a monthly day in the mosque for performing communal night prayers (Qiyam al-Layl), dinner, and a religious lesson considered an innovation (bid‘ah)? And is it obligatory to perform Qunut in all five prayers, or is it sufficient in some of them?

Bid‘ah (innovation) is defined as any act of worship that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not perform, despite the presence of its cause and the absence of any impediment. Therefore, if the monthly gathering for night prayers and religious lessons for the aforementioned group is not considered an innovation, it is because they do not find another time for it, and they do not prevent their members from performing other acts of worship. However, if this specific timing is considered a Sunnah from which deviation is impermissible, then it is an innovation. As for Qunut (supplication during prayer), it is not obligatory in the five daily prayers. It is recommended in the Fajr prayer according to the Malikis and Shafi‘is. In prayers other than Fajr, it is not legislated except during calamities.
