What is the correct intention for memorizing the Qur'an, and how can one avoid showing off?

The whisperings (waswas) in ablution (wudu) and prayer (salat) are from Satan, and their cure is to disregard them and seek refuge in Allah. Prayer and ablution are easy, and Islamic law (Sharia) is built upon ease. Constantly remembering Allah (dhikr), reciting His Book, and memorizing it are among the best means to ward off Satan's cunning and whisperings. As Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said: "Whisperings occur to everyone who turns to Allah the Almighty through remembrance or otherwise. Therefore, the servant should be steadfast and patient, and adhere to what he is doing, be it remembrance or prayer, and not become weary. For by adhering to that, Satan's cunning will turn away from him, 'Indeed, the cunning of Satan has always been weak.'" The intention for memorizing the Book of Allah should be to seek Allah's countenance and pleasure, act upon its rulings, believe in its narrations, and seek healing through its verses, so as to avoid showing off.
