What is the virtue of memorizing the Holy Quran? And what is the ruling on memorizing it?

The virtues of memorizing the Qur’an are great and many, as verses and hadiths have been reported concerning this. Among them is the Almighty’s saying: ﴿But rather, it is clear verses in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge﴾ [Al-Ankabut: 49]. And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the Qur’an will meet its companion on the Day of Resurrection… so he will be given sovereignty in his right hand and eternity in his left, and a crown of dignity will be placed upon his head, and his parents will be clothed with two robes..." And he said: "Indeed, part of glorifying Allah is honoring an elderly Muslim, and the carrier of the Qur’an who does not exaggerate in it nor abandon it..." And he said: "The people are led in prayer by the one among them who is most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah." And his saying when burying the martyrs of Uhud: "Present the one among them who memorized the most Qur’an."
