What are the virtues of the one who memorizes the Book of Allah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Many texts have been revealed regarding the virtues of memorizing the Book of Allah and acting upon it. Among them is Allah's saying: "Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend [in His cause] out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, [can] expect a transaction that will never perish. That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them from His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The best among you is he who learns the Qur'an and teaches it," and his saying: "The one who is proficient in the Qur'an will be with the noble and righteous scribes (angels)," and his saying: "It will be said to the reciter of the Qur'an: 'Read and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the worldly life, for your rank is at the last verse you recite,'" and his saying: "Indeed, Allah has His own people among mankind." It was asked, "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "They are the people of the Qur'an; they are Allah's people and His chosen ones."

Among them is his saying (peace be upon him): "Whoever recites the Qur'an, learns it, and acts upon it, his parents will be clothed on the Day of Resurrection with a crown of light whose brightness is like the brightness of the sun, and his parents will be clothed with two garments that the world cannot value. They will say: 'Why have we been clothed with this?' It will be said: 'Because your child took the Qur'an.'"
