What is the wisdom behind memorizing the Holy Qur’an by heart, despite the availability of the Mushaf at any time, knowing that its memorization in the era of prophethood was due to the absence of a compiled Mushaf?

Memorizing the Quran fulfills the verse: "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Dhikr (the Quran), and indeed, We will be its Guardian." Thus, it is preserved in written form and in the hearts, establishing proof against dissenters, and it is a shield in the heart of its memorizer. A worshiper needs to memorize a portion of the Quran. Among the benefits and virtues of memorizing the Quran are:

1. Memorizing the Quran is a followed Sunnah, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to review it with Gabriel. 2. It saves its owner from the Hellfire, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If the Quran were gathered in a skin, Allah would not burn it with fire." 3. It grants intercession, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Recite the Quran, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions." 4. It raises its owner in ranks in Paradise, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "It will be said to the companion of the Quran on the Day of Resurrection: 'Read and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the worldly life, for your station is at the last verse you recite.'" 5. Honoring its bearer is part of glorifying Allah Almighty, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, it is part of glorifying Allah Almighty to honor an elderly Muslim, and a memorizer of the Quran who is not excessive in it nor neglectful of it." 6. The memorizers of the Quran are the people of Allah and His chosen ones, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has people among mankind. They said: 'Who are they, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'The people of the Quran are the people of Allah and His chosen ones.'" 7. Memorizing the Quran is a cause for elevation in this world and the Hereafter, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah raises some nations with this Book and lowers others with it." 8. Giving precedence to the memorizer in leading the prayer over others, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The people are led in prayer by the one who is most knowledgeable of the Book of Allah Almighty." 9. Joining his status with the righteous. 10. True envy is in memorizing the Quran, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "There is no envy except in two: a man whom Allah has given the Book, and he stands with it during the hours of the night and ends of the day." 11. Memorizing and learning the Quran is better than the world and what is in it, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Would not one of you go to the mosque and learn or recite two verses from the Book of Allah Almighty? It is better for him than two she-camels."
