What should I do with my wife, with whom I do not feel happy, who makes excuses during intercourse, mocks me for being a government employee, and quarrels with me in front of the children, knowing that we have been divorced once before, and her family does not discipline her? And what is the ruling of religion on her actions?

A husband and wife must live together in kindness and equity (al-ma'ruf). This includes the wife not refusing her husband's call to bed except for a valid excuse, and not mocking him. The husband is advised to communicate with his wife to understand the reasons for her reluctance and to address them, and to inform her of his rights. He should proceed gradually in rectification, first by admonishing, then by boycotting her in bed, and then by striking her without causing injury if admonition and boycotting are ineffective, all while acting with wisdom and gentleness, and considering the nature of women. Achieving affection requires patience and overlooking mistakes. If these means of rectification fail, then divorce is the last resort.
