Can the one afflicted with obsessive doubts (al-mosawwes) adopt the view of the Shafi'is that "al-talaq" (divorce) or "talaq" (divorce) used as a metaphorical expression (kinayah) does not effect divorce unless intended, regardless of whether the pronoun "anti" (you, feminine) or another is addressed?

Divorce does not occur merely by uttering the word 'divorce' unless it indicates its attribution to the wife. Doubt concerning the attribution of the word to the wife prevents divorce from taking effect, because the default state is the continuation of the marriage. As Al-Majd Ibn Taymiyyah said: "If there is doubt about divorce or its condition, the certainty of the marriage is built upon." It is advised to refrain from excessive questioning about divorce whispers (waswas); for in doing so lies the opening of a door to evil and the feeding of such whispers.
