The Sunnah is for the minbar to be to the right of the mihrab, to have three steps, and to be made of wood, just as the minbar of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was. The minbar should be moved to the right side if that is possible. Note that the placement of the minbar does not affect the validity of the prayer.
