Did the Prophet’s fear, peace and blessings be upon him, that one of his affairs would be exposed to his wives drive him to swear an oath to abstain from his ummah? And did he divorce Hafsa because she revealed a secret?

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade himself Maria to please Hafsa. This is indicated by the authentic hadith of Anas in An-Nasa'i, which states that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had a bondwoman with whom he had relations. Aisha and Hafsa ceaselessly pressed him until he forbade her to himself. Then Allah Almighty revealed: {O Prophet, why do you forbid what Allah has made lawful for you?} [At-Tahrim: 1]. This story has a well-established basis, as Al-Hafiz mentioned in Talkhis Al-Habir.
