If sorrow removes misdeeds and sins, why does the son of Adam sometimes not bear it, which causes him to commit sins, and does this sorrow truly expunge misdeeds?

Grief is an expiation for the sins of a believer, as are illness, fatigue, worry, and similar things. In this lies a great glad tiding for Muslims: the expiation of sins, the raising of ranks, and the increase of good deeds. This is the correct view held by the majority of scholars.

However, if grief leads to committing evil deeds, it is not an expiation for them, nor is it a justification for committing forbidden acts. Whoever commits evil deeds under the pretext of grief and lack of patience is considered disobedient to Allah Almighty and unjust to himself, as long as they have not reached a state of mental incapacitation.
