What should a Muslim sister do who is studying in France, and her school forbids the hijab, and her parents refuse her homeschooling and threaten her with expulsion and return to her home country if she does not comply with their decision, while she fears being influenced by her non-practicing relatives in her home country?

This fatwa is directed to a sister who is suffering from family pressure regarding the hijab, and it prays to Allah to relieve her distress and guide her family.

The fatwa advises her as follows:

1. Preference for Homeschooling: If she can study from home (via correspondence) and convince her family to allow it, this is the best option to avoid removing the hijab.

2. Necessity to Remove the Hijab: If there is no other option but to remove the hijab for study, or to travel to irreligious relatives from whom there is a justified fear for her faith, then in this case she is permitted to temporarily remove the hijab.

3. Rule of Necessity: This falls under the principle of committing the lesser of two harms, and necessity is estimated according to its extent, citing the noble verse: "But whoever is compelled, without desiring [it] or exceeding [it], then there is no sin upon him."
