If sisters are among the eight categories of eligible recipients for zakat, then it is permissible to give them from it. If the father withholds their basic needs from them, he should be advised. If he does not take heed and they are able to take their right without his knowledge, they should do so and not take from zakat. If they are unable to take their right, then it is permissible to give them from zakat. Zakat is not given to students of worldly sciences unless another description from the categories of zakat recipients applies to them. It is not permissible to pay zakat for equipping a sister for marriage unless her marriage is contingent upon this equipment and it is limited to essential needs. Sisters who are eligible for zakat should be given according to their needs. There is no need to inform the husband if he has authorized his wife to manage affairs, unless he is known to dislike it. It is advised to be diligent and give zakat to those who are truly deserving.
