The question

What should I do if I supplicate to Allah with a supplication that is not answered promptly, causing me pain, even with my trust in Allah's wisdom in delaying it and my desire for it to be fulfilled quickly? And how can I discern Allah's love for me, and does it manifest in specific actions, and how do I distinguish trials of love from others?

The answer

If you supplicate to Allah Almighty for a need, you should have a good opinion of Him and be persistent in supplication. You must be patient with what Allah decrees, and not be hasty or despairing, for theponse to supplication does not necessitate granting the exact thing requested, as withholding might be protection and mercy. The response to supplication comes in one of three ways: either the fulfillment of the request, or the averting of a similar evil, or the storing of reward for the Hereafter. As for Allah's love for His servant, it is unseen, and is known through performing the actions that bring about His love, and indeed, tribulation can be a sign of it.
